Several sites within the SCENIC GALVESTON Nature Preserve Complex, including the O’Quinn I-45 Corridor wetlands as well as Virginia Point Peninsula.
Description of Cleanup:
The SCENIC GALVESTON preserve complex is especially convenient to Galveston, Bayou Vista, Tiki Island, Hitchcock and Santa Fe. There are multiple cleanup sites in the combined 2500 acre preserve, including salt marsh, open bay shoreline, prairie wetlands and other coastal habitats, so come prepared! Mobilize your family, school, church, neighbors, and organizations to remove tons of trash and debris from the Galveston Bay watershed. This site is also suitable for paddlers who would like to go after waterborne trash or into more remote areas of the preserve. If enough interest arises, a group paddler site may be especially designated. Kayakers and canoers, please call early!
Schedule for Day:
Registration begins at 8 a.m.. The actual clean up is from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 pm, with a terrific lunch afterwards, including t-shirts, door prizes and environmental activities.
Special Information:
SCENIC GALVESTON, in cooperation with nonprofit partner Artist Boat, will be offering “Trash-to-Treasure” a youth art project which will start at 8:30 AM, with those youths being supervised in a pick-up of trash at selected areas and then returning to the registration area to finish the art project under the supervision of an Artist Boat representative.
Trash to Treasure is limited to children 13 years old and younger. Limited spaces are available so secure your place by pre-registering here.
General participants in the Trash Bash can pre-register here.
If you do not want to pre-register, you can speed up the on-site registration process downloading the registration form and filling it out before your arrival.
Note: This site requires advance notice for attendance, particularly for groups. Please call to reserve your space ASAP, even if you are not sure yet about your final number of participants. THANKS!
