Trash Bash®, the largest single day waterway cleanup event in the State of Texas, held its 26th consecutive cleanup on March 30, 2019, continuing its mission to clean up and promote a healthy Galveston Bay Watershed. Although the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of Trash Bash® for the first time in its history and a virtual event in 2021, Trash Bash is excited to welcome back volunteers for the 28th River, Lakes, Bays 'N Bayous Trash Bash® on Saturday, March 26, 2022. History
Founded in 1994 by the Houston-Galveston Area Council and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality with 7 sites and 3,000 volunteers, Trash Bash® has grown to 16 sites across the Galveston Bay Watershed with an average of 4,000+ volunteers annually.
Trash Bash® is managed by the Texas Conservation Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization, with additional guidance and leadership from its Coordination Committee and H-GAC.
Trash Bash® is partially financed through grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Trash Bash® is also an approved recipient for TCEQ Supplemental Environmental Project funds.

To promote environmental stewardship of our watershed through public education by utilizing hands-on educational tools and by developing partnerships between environmental, government and private organizations.

Growth & Impact
Trash Bash® has experienced tremendous growth over 28 years. Since 1994, 114,476 volunteers have collected 2,336.5 tons of trash, 20.25 tons of recycling, and 11,629 tires.
In 2019, at 16 locations across the Galveston Bay watershed, 4,290 volunteers collected 56.5 tons of trash, picked up 2 tons of recyclable materials, and gathered 513 illegally dumped tires. More than half the volunteers were under 18, and 984 were involved in scouting. In 2021, even without an in-person event, almost 800 people participated in cleaning up their own watersheds.
